제가L.I.C.

Hello!
My name is Sungmo Cho and I am a fine artist.
I finally finished a project that I have been thinking of for 20 years in my Long Island City studio. For a long time, I didn't have the space and needed material to do this piece, but it was just completed. This piece, I believe, is the most meaningful piece of my art career as it brings my art into a full circle.
While working on this piece I've had people take pictures and videos of the work in process and those will be available on youtube for you to see.
In 1990 I had painted a piece called The Signal of Civilization (please see attached). In that work you can see a big ominous skyscraper, and that was the motivation behind my new piece. I had thought to do this new piece in 1990 and made the corner stone in my ceramics class at Pratt Institute in 1995. Fast forward another 18 years and as soon as I moved into my new studio, I had looked for the corner stone and was very happy to see my signature and date on the corner stone.
The new piece is eleven feet tall and stands on a 16" by 16" platform. Along with this new piece, I will be showcasing over ten of my artworks from the '80s to '90s because it will give a story on how this new piece came about
I have just recently finished this art piece and it took almost 20 years for it to finally come to fruition. A lot of it was due to limited space and collection of parts for complete the project. I've been thinking about this piece for 20 years and was always worried that someone would create this with a similar concept to mine. Luckily that has not happened. As soon as I moved into my new studio in Long Island City, this was the first project I had started after seeing the high ceilings in my studio, and the first step was attaching wheels to the moving 16"x16" platform.
The show will be from 2/24 to 3/23, and opening reception will be on 2/24 (Friday) from 5-8 pm. I really hope that you can make it to see this new piece.
Best regards,
Sungmo 917-832-0437
