In one what is considered one of the top international fields ever, reigning champions Geoffrey Mutai and Caroline Kilel will headline the 116th running of the Boston Marathon. Mutai is the fastest marathoner in history and the only man to ever set course records at both the Boston and New York City Marathons in the same year, which he did in 2011 after also winning the New York City Marathon. Challenging Mutai are 2011 Boston Marathon third place finisher and 2010 New York City Marathon champion Gebre Gebremarim, 2010 Boston Marathon champion Robert Kiprono Cheruiyot, 2011 Amsterdam and Rotterdam winner Wilson Chebet, and 2011 Chicago second and third place finishers Wesley Korir and Bernard Kipyego.
Women’s champion Kilel will face competition from teammates Sharon Cherop and Caroline Rotich who finished third and fourth in last year’s race, as well as 2011 New York City Marathon winner Firehiwot Dado and runner-up Buzunesh Deba.
Universal Sports Network is home to three World Marathon Majors (WMM), offering multiplatform coverage of the Boston Marathon, Virgin London Marathon and Berlin Marathon.
