Stratton Faxon Fairfield Half Marathon Final Runner Instructions
Welcome to the 32nd Annual Fairfield Road Races. We hope that the 2012 race will be the best yet. In order to accommodate an ever growing demand, our 5K race is on Saturday (June 23). We will reach the field limit of 4,500 for the half marathon by the end of the week. 5k race day entries will be accepted starting at 7 a.m. on race day. No race day entries will be accepted for the Half Marathon. You cannot run the 5K with your half marathon bib number. Deferments are no longer accepted for this year's race. Check www.fairfieldhalf.org for your bib number and to make sure we have your correct race, age, sex and town. We will be using the disposable B-tag systems for fast and accurate results. The timing tag is attached to your race bib so please do not remove it. To insure that you get timed, please make sure your race bib is worn on your front side and that it is attached to the outermost clothing layer.
Arrive early to avoid traffic problems - this year's race will be the largest yet. Parking is extremely limited, and we encourage participants to car pool.
Directions (they will not concur with Mapquest but are the most efficient on race morning):
From New York and West:
Auto - 25 minutes from the NY/CT border. Take I-95N to exit 21, Mill Plain Rd. Go right off the exit, travel 2/10 mile then turn left just before the railroad bridge into the parking lot. Free, easy 7 minute shuttle service to and from start area.
Train Service (preferred) - Runners are encouraged to take Metro North to the Fairfield Station (5:35 a.m. train from Grand Central arrives at 7:04 a.m.). Free shuttle service will quickly get you to the start area. Last bus leaves Jennings Beach at 12:30 p.m. to return to train station.
From New Haven and East:
Auto - 25 minutes from New Haven. Take I-95S to exit 23, Kings Highway. Go straight 3/4 mile, and then turn left onto South Benson Road. Proceed one mile south to Jennings Beach. The main Jennings Beach parking lot should be filled by 7:30 a.m. Runners arriving after 7:10 a.m. will be directed to lots adjacent to the main parking lot at Jennings Beach. If you arrive in Fairfield after 7:30 a.m., you should go directly to the Fairfield Train Station (where you can get quick complimentary shuttle service to the start area). If the train station fills there is ample free parking nearby; then walk to station.
Train Service (preferred) - Take MetroNorth to Fairfield Station from New Haven (leaves New Haven at 6:53 a.m. - arrives 7:22 a.m.). Free, easy 7 minute shuttle service to and from the start area.
Instructions:
1.) When you arrive at Jennings Beach, look up your bib number on the parking lot side of the Beach Pavilion.
2.) A baggage check is available by the flagpole on the West side of the pavilion.
3.) At 8:15 a.m., each runner will proceed to the start line (race starts at 8:30 a.m.).
4.) The Half Marathon Course features separate start lines for men and women with both merging just after one mile. To get to the start everyone walks past the finish banner and thru the rear gate. The men's start is straight ahead 255' on Fairfield Beach Rd. and the Women's start is to the right 555' on Beach Rd.
5.) ROADS ARE OPEN TO TRAFFIC - USE CAUTION!!!
6.) Ample water has been supplied along the course. Please use it. There will be nine aid stations in the 1/2 marathon. Lemon/lime Gatorade will be available at 8 water stations in the half marathon. There will be Vanilla Bean GU Energy Gel at approximately 6 1/2 miles into the race. A number of shower sprays will be available along the half marathon course courtesy of the Fairfield Fire Fighters.
8.) We have added more bands along the half marathon race course. Enjoy several cheer stations hosted by Leukemia & Lymphom Society's Team In Training and lululemon athletica Westport & Greenich.

14.) Results will be posted on FairfieldHalf.org by Sunday evening.
15.) This year, with the increase in the number of walkers and the associated cost for police, protection the Fairfield Half Marathon is instituting a 11:30 am finish time limit for all participants. If you think you may not finish within 3:15 hours we recommend using the 8:00 a.m. start. Participants finishing after the noon deadline will be scored but need to understand that the course volunteers will be breaking down and that they need to pay extra attention to traffic and to staying on the course. Water will still be available at the water stations.
16.) Enjoy a delicious post-race party with smoothies by Robeks, snacks from Whole Foods, hot dogs by Kayem and much more.
17.) National Sporting Goods will be selling discounted athletic shoes and apparel at the event.
