Just a quick follow up to yesterday's e-mail. We want to make sure you are clear on a few things:
Downtown Garages - ALL of the garages in Downtown Scranton are pay to park on race day. This includes the garage at the corner of Linden Street and North Washington Avenue. In past years, this garage was free on race day. It is not free this year.
All meters are free. You should not have a problem finding a meter early on race morning. We have never had a complaint in 16 years from a runner who said they could not find a place to park on race morning. Worst case secenario is that you may have to walk three blocks to get to the buses. Just do not park at a meter that has a no parking sign on it. You will be towed.
Forest City Escape Route - I am teaching my 16 year old son how to drive so I had him drive us to the starting line and then take the escape route home. All of the signs for Route 247 and Route 106 are in place as descibed on the written route.
However, I just want to stress that the escape route is not for those who get weak in the knees when they are driving on unfamiliar roads. It is one of those, "I think we are lost and we are never going to get there" routes. If you are being dropped off by a friend or family member, my advice is that they leave as soon as you get out of the car and drive to Viewpoint #1. If they choose to stay to watch the start they really need to follow the escape route exactly or they will get lost and will never get there.
Dropping Out? - Active.com has processed the $25 refund for all of you who withdrew by September 7. If you now decide to drop out, you will not receive the refund but please do us the courtesy of letting us know anyway. That way we won't prepare a race packet for you and lug it all over the place. Also, Steamtown no longer has a Carry Forward policy. In each of the last two years, 30% of the field did not show up on race day. We simply cannot continue the carry forward policy with rates like that.
