Greetings Runners!
It's time for the much anticipated race day transportation and parking e-mail. Pay attention because there are Important Things below for first time AND veteran Steamtowners.
Driving to Forest City - If someone drops you off at the start on race morning, they can stay and watch the race, however...
Important Thing #1
- the roads they used to get you to the start will close shortly before
the gun goes off. The only way to get out of Forest City once the race
starts is via a somewhat complicated “escape route.” Most “dropper
offers” choose to get their runner to the starting line by about 7:00
a.m. and then leave right away and go to Viewpoint #1.
Important Thing #2 - WE DO NOT PROVIDE TRANSPORTATION BACK TO THE STARTING LINE AFTER THE RACE!!! Do not
drive to the starting line and leave your car there. If you do, you
will cross the finish line and be 26.2 miles from your car.

Exhausted
Runner - “Greetings helpful finish line volunteer. Could you please
tell me when the next bus leaves for Forest City?”
Helpful Volunteer - “Sure, October 13, 2013.”
Bus Transportation
- The buses will arrive in Downtown Scranton at 5:30 a.m. As they
fill, we will send them to the start. The ride takes about 45 minutes.
Last bus will leave at 6:45 a.m. sharp. You snooze, you lose. Set two
alarms and buy a rooster!
Only runners can ride the buses.
Friends/family who ride a bus to Forest City will be stranded there with
no means of return transportation.
Important Thing #3
- In the spirit of Where's Waldo, we have moved the bus departure spot
to the corner of Spruce St. and Wyoming Ave. (one block from the
finish).
Race Morning Parking in Scranton
- Most runners choose to park at a meter in Downtown Scranton on race
day because they are free all day. There are three garages that are in
close proximity to the finish line, however, they are all pay to park garages. Rate info can be found here: http://www.scrantonparking.
DO NOT PARK AT A METER WITH A NO PARKING SIGN.
Important Thing #4
- I realize you will be half asleep or scared to death (or both) when
you drive into Scranton in the darkness of race morning, however,
FOCUS! Get your bearings and remember where you've parked. Telling a
volunteer you can't find your car but you remember parking it by a curb,
parking meter and building won't help us find it.
Important Thing #5
- Since Scranton has become a swanky city like Paris, London, New York
and Harrisburg, we no longer have human workers in our parking garages.
We have those pay stations where you pay at a kiosk with cash or a
credit card before you go back to your car. REMEMBER THIS if you park
in a garage!
