Yes, another update. Running out of time.
Let's talk starting line in this one.
Arrival at Forest City High School - when you step off of the bus you will be made to feel like the rock stars that you are. You won't believe the energy of the high school students. They'll even present you with a small memento. One of the best marathon welcomes anywhere.
Stay Warm - You are welcome to go inside the high school and stay warm (or go back outside if all of that body heat becomes unbearable). Please respect school property at all times.
Peeing - We will have 90 port-a-lavs spread all around the school. We will have men's and women's lavs ("I am woman, hear me roar!"). We prefer that you use these outdoor facilities rather than overtaxing the school's indoor plumbing. Also, do not pee on Forest City High School. That did happen. Two very talented women runners let loose right on a brick wall (you can't make this stuff up). The student witnesses are still in therapy.
No Pacers, But... - We do not have official pace groups. However, we will have various finish times taped to the walls of the cafeteria. The hope is that you will find your goal time and buddy up with the others standing there. Hopefully, one of you will know what you are doing. Just think, you might meet your future husband - or a serial killer- this way.
Bag Check - Remember, when you are ready to de-clothed, hook up with one of the Real Housewives of Forest City. Bag check stations will be inside and outside. The ladies will help you pack your bag and then burly UPS drivers will bring it to the finish.
5, 6, 7, 8, 9 - You will see several alert teenagers holding signs with per minute pace times at the starting line. Please stand near the sign that best describes the pace you will set. This will help prevent tramplings.
BOOM! - A very loud Civil War cannon will start the race. You may want to hold your ears. The concussion of the blast is very powerful. One year, a volunteer was on a bike about 50 feet directly in front of the runners. When the cannon boomed, he was knocked off his bike and was dragged to safety in the nick of time. Note: He was wearing a clown costume, but my guess is you already assumed that.
Parking - As stated in an earlier e-mail, DO NOT park your car at the start and leave it there. We do not provide return transportation to the start after the race. Someone will still do this. You'll see.
