This will probably be the second to last pre-race e-mail (unless something bizarre happens).
Expo Speaker - Alert Steamtown runner Chris Scalese e-mailed me to let me know that I messed up in my expo e-mail. Turns out it is his brother Doctor Matt Scalese who will be making the presentation about minimalist running in the auditorium 1:00 p.m. Chris pointed out that he has run Steamtown 16 times while Matt, the big shot doctor, has only run it 14 times. Plus, the family dog always liked Chris better. Sorry about the mix-up guys.

Homestretch Hill - Scranton Running Company will again be adopting that brutal uphill in the last mile near Cooper's Restaurant, just before you get into Downtown Scranton. Their enthusiastic volunteers will cheer you up that final hill and it will be smooth sailing after that.

Expo Day Jog - Race Director Bill King and famous runner Jon Sinclair will be leading a slow three mile jog from Scranton High (expo) past the finish line and through the Steamtown National Historic Site. This is a good way to meet some other runners and learn a little more about our course and the Scranton area. Meet at 9:55 a.m. at the expo on Saturday if you'd like to tag along.
Your Bib = $$$ - You may want to be a tourist while
you are in Scranton and visit the Steamtown National Historic Site and
Lackawanna County Electric City Trolley Museum. Both are located
adjacent to Downtown Scranton. Your bib will get you one free entry at

Live TV Show - Many thanks to WBRE and WYOU TV for again doing the 90 minute live broadcast from the finish on race day. The show will run from 10:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. and will be simulcast on www.pahomepage.com. After the show, they will stream runners crossing the finish for quite some time on the Web site.
I might get to be the "color man" on the show again. I get to sit next to a real sports anchor and wear a headset and everything. Two years ago when I did the show I thought I was pretty hot stuff. Went home at the end of the day and my three sons were sitting in the living room playing video games.
Me: "Well, did you see your old man on TV today?"
Evan (7 at the time): "Yeah, we watched you for two minutes and then we put on SpongeBob."
The marathon can humble you.
